Edinburgh Intermediate Trad Session

For those of you who are new to sessions in general or this session in particular, and as a reminder for those who have been before, here are a few points of session etiquette to keep in mind:

• This is an intermediate/steady paced session, so we try to keep tunes to a sensible tempo. We don’t always manage it for every tune, but that’s the aim!
• Everyone is welcome to start and lead tunes and sets, but be considerate: leave enough time between sets for people to have a chat, and have a look around the room in case someone else was just about to start something. Some people might be nervous and need a little time to work up the courage!
• If you’d like to play a specific tune but don’t want to lead it, requests are very welcome too! Just ask the session leader or the people sitting near you.
• The aim is to play together, not to do solo performances. Occasionally a tune might come up that nobody else knows, and that’s absolutely fine, but try to stick to tunes that others can join in with.
• We don’t have a set list of tunes we play, but if you come regularly, you’ll probably hear many of the same tunes coming up again and again. If you want to learn some of them, just ask the people near you for the name and make a note of it (many of us keep our own lists of tunes to learn), and feel free to record tunes on your phone too. Most people also has sheet music for many of the tunes, just ask!
